Check out a review for Postal Cafe in the Reno News & Review: https://www.newsreview.com/reno/signed-sealed-delivered/content?oid=14740583
We aren’t too sure how old our building is but we do know that it started as a gas station on Virginia Street in Reno in the 1960’s. Old photographs show that sometime in 1971 the gas station was moved to Washoe Valley. That was back in the day when they actually moved buildings instead of tearing them down. The gas station eventually fell into disrepair. Remember video cassettes? The gas station had evolved into a video store and post office.
On July 1, 2005, Luanne fell in love with the old building. She was inspired to turn the old gas station into a cafe because she felt the community of Washoe Valley needed it. So that’s what she did. She started serving coffee and pastries for donations. Eventually she raised enough donations to get a stove. But why stop at just a stove and why not serve breakfast with the coffee?
At the end of 2013, the Postal Cafe was ready for a new owner to take up the reins (or spatulas). Bella fell in love with the old building just like Luanne did. She could tell that the cafe was loved and cared for not just by Luanne but also by the community of Washoe Valley. The cafe has always had a unique quality of drawing together people of all sorts from all over the world. The cafe has been the spot in Washoe Valley to meet up with old friends (and make new friends) while enjoying a meal together. During the summer months we have outdoor patio seating and do monthly barbecue themed cook-outs. We are happy to be the unifying ground for strengthening community ties in the valley.
We are proud that we have made consistency an important value of the cafe. We take pride in our work and the food we serve. If it seems like it’s taking a little longer to get your order, know that we are cooking it when you order. We believe that is what also makes it delicious and special. We also make our pastries from scratch and love trying out new recipes. We are always looking for new treats to bake up so don’t forget to ask about what is in the pastry case when you come to visit us.
So whether you are checking out the Postal Cafe for the first time or you’re one of the regulars, we hope you enjoy your visit and that it leaves a lasting impression from the good food and the good company!
